Essential oils are potent natural products, which why you use so little in each recipe. The therapeutic values found in essential oils are perfect for treating emotional, mental, and physical problems. Aromatherapy recipes are used to maintain and improve health, skin, hair, body and spirit. Essential oils help improve health by working with your body in a natural way and it complements most types of therapy be it conventional or alternative.

There are many wonderful recipes in aromatherapy. Aromatherapy is as old as time. The Egyptians used aromatherapy recipes for their cosmetics and in their religous ceremonies such as embalming. Cleopatra knew the power of aromatherapy when she soaked her sails with aromatic perfumes to entice Marc Anthony back to Egypt.

We recommend that you test for sensitivity, especially if you have allergies or hay fever. A very simple test would be to take one drop of oil on a cotton swab. Dot it to the inside of your wrist or elbow...cover with a band-aide and wait 24 hours. If there is no reaction, you are most likely not allergic to that essential oil.

WARNING: Never use undiluted essential oils on the skin. Do not take orally without the supervision of a practitioner or use when pregnant.

Aromatherapy Recipe - Bath for Headache Relief
3 drops chamomile
3 drops lavender
2 drops marjoram
1 drop thyme
1 drop peppermint
Fill bath tub with very warm water (NOT HOT). Add essential oils after the tub is full. Disperse oils through the water immediately before getting in. (Doing so prevents the oils from puddling into 1 area.) Soak, inhale deeple and relax for 20-30 minutes.

All Natural Body Powder Recipe
3 Tablespoons cornstarch
13 drops geranium
13 drops bergamot
13 ylang ylang
Into a wide-mouthed clean glass jar add cornstarch. Add essential oils. Cap jar and gently shake to blend. Using a wooden spoon, break up any clumps that may form. Let sit for 2-3 days to allow essential oils to mingle and blend. Shake before using.

Romance Blend Recipe
This particular recipe is for using with a scent ring, a diffuser or an aroma lamp.
20 drops rosewood
10 drops neroli
5 drops lavender
5 drops thyme
3 drops cinnamon or clove
Add essential oils to a clean dark glass bottle. Gently rock to blend. Follow your diffuser's directions for the proper amount to add. For a scent ring add 5-6 drops. For an aroma lamp follow the manufacturer's directions, or add about 8-12 drops along with 1 teaspoon of water into the well of the lamp. Store remainder in a cool place.

Anti-Anxiety Aromatherapy Recipe Blend
3 drops neroli
2 drops patchouli
2 drops geranium
2 drops rose
2 drops ylang ylang
1 drop frankincense
1 drop bergamot
Add essential oils to a clean dark glass bottle. Gently blend. Add a few drops to a scent ring, or drizzle some into a piece of aromatherapy jewelry, inhale directly from the bottle (don't get any on your nose), or add to an aroma lamp. You can also add some oil to a cotton ball, place the cotton ball on a plate and let evaporate into a room.

Aromatherapy Massage Oil Recipe for Muscle Aches
1/2 cup carrier oil (we recommend Hazel Oil and/or Flax Oil)
20 drops juniper
20 drops lemon
10 drops thyme
Add essential oils and carrier oil to a clean dark bottle. Gently shake to blend. Warm blend by soaking closed bottle in hot water. When oil is warmed, massage into sore muscles. HINT: For extra relief from aching muscles, try using Emu Oil mixed with Hazel or Flax Oil!

Essential oils have many properties and each oil can help in several different areas. Below is just a listing of which oils can help where. These are not the only essential oils that can be used, it is just a very small guideline.

Abscesses/Boils: basil, chamomile, clary sage, eucalyptus, geranium, juniper, lavender, rosemary, thyme, tea tree
Acne: aspic, calendula,chamomile, juniper, lavender,myrrh, neroli, patchouli, tea tree, thyme
Allergies: chamomile, lemon balm, rose
Anxiety: bergamot, basil, clary sage, cinnamon, coriander, jasmine, neroli, orange, pine, ylang ylang
Asthma: eucalyptus, lavender, lemon, lemon balm, rosemary
Coughs: aniseed, cypress, fennel, niaouli, thyme
Depression: bergamot, basil geranium, lavender, lemon balm, neroli, nutmeg, pine, rose, ylang ylang
Eczema: bergamot, chamomile, geranium, lavender, lemon balm, rosemary
Headache: basil, clary sage, fever few, lavender, lemon balm, marjoram, neroli, peppermint, rose, ylang ylang
Insect Bites: bergamot,lavender, lemon balm, tea tree,
Insomnia: chamomile, lavender, neroili, rose, rosewwod, marjoram, sandalwood
Menopause: clary sage, cypress, geranium, lemon balm
Sore Muscles: ginger, juniper, mint, nutmeg, peppermint, pine, rosemary, thyme
Nervousness: bergamot, coriander, fennel, lemon balm, marjoram
PMS: chamomile, clary sage, marjoram, neroli, ylang ylang
Stress: bergamot, clary sage, fennel, lavender, neroli, rose, sandalwood, vetiver
Sunburn: chamomile, lavender
